In this lesson you will learn:

• Learn how to combine black and brown pen over tan paper

In Zentangle world, using a tan colored paper tile is called "Renaissance", because it simulates techniques used by Renaissance painters. In this technique, you learn how to combine black and brown pens to create interesting and varied line-art.

• Learn treat and shade "a-la-Renaissance"

Since tan paper has medium value, it's not white and not black, Renaissance techniques involve adding both light and dark values to the shading. You'll learn how to use white charcoal or pastel to simulate highlights, and markers and graphite pencil to simulate shading.

• Produce an antiqued, ancient look

In this lesson you'll work on a project from beginning to end, from line-art to finish, creating a striking tile that looks more like an ancient treasure map than a drawing.

• Learn how to treat the background too!

Renaissance treatment is not only using brown and black pens, the background also gets super special treatment. Learn how to produce a striking background with a frame to create a rich and intricate picture.

• 3D Shading with different media

Every detail of how to draw and shade this beautiful flower is shown in detail in this lesson, using white charcoal, graphite pencil, gray marker and fine-liner pens. When you are done you'll become confident of your skills over tan paper!

• And so many tips and tricks!

Every lesson is packed with tips that can help you with ALL of your projects and make you a better artist.

WHY THIS LESSON IS IMPORTANT!

Tan paper is in the middle; not dark or light

If you have worked on white or black papers, you are familiar with the process of compensating for the absence of light or shadow. Tan paper lies directly in the middle, and there is neither light or dark -- you must create BOTH effects. Although it seems like more work (and it is), the results are much more striking than any other paper, with a luminous effect that seems to glow from within.
